relief prints
Relief printmaking describes the act of carving and printing a flat object’s surface in order to create images, typically using wood or linoleum blocks to carve into.
The way the image is formed is a reductive process, which removes information through carving, as compared to drawing, which adds information through graphite application. It requires forethought and planning to make a good image alongside a solid understanding of materials and tools. Perhaps this is what makes it so satisfying to achieve.
