combines
“Combine” is a term created by artist, Robert Rauschenberg, in 1954-1964 to describe a series of work he made that combine painting and sculpture.
While my Combines do not lean directly into sculpture, they do find connections between forms of painting, printmaking, design, textiles, and photography. I don’t attempt to work under an assumed media classification while I am making; paintings can be anything. Prints can be anything. Art can be anything. For these works, however, I find it would do a disservice to the processes to simply classify these works as paintings since they borrow multiple other, oftentimes categorically separated, means of creating.
